This comparison contains the single most useful pair of numbers on this website, and both of them are Nitecore's. The Nitecore P30i publishes 2,000 lumens and 1,000 meters of reach. The Nitecore P20iX publishes 4,000 lumens and 221 meters. Twice the output, less than a quarter of the distance, same brand, same cell format, adjacent in the same catalog.
If you have ever suspected that the lumen figure on the box does not tell you how far a light sees, that pair settles it. And it frames the real difference between these two brands: Nitecore builds lights at both extremes of beam concentration and labels them with the same vocabulary, while Streamlight builds a narrower range and documents it far more completely.
How we picked
Three matched pairs by role — the long-throw duty lights, the high-output rechargeables, and the compact handhelds. Every figure is the maker's own, linked with the date we read it. Nitecore's own site would not serve us product pages from this build, so the Nitecore figures come from the brand's own listings and are labeled as such in every spec table. We have handled none of these lights; our methodology sets out what we do instead of testing.
The 40-fold spread inside one brand
Candela per lumen is not something either company publishes. Divide beam intensity by total output and you get a number describing how much of each lumen the reflector concentrates rather than spreads. Across this comparison it ranges from 3 to 125, and Nitecore owns both ends of it.

The table sorts almost perfectly into a shape nobody would predict from the lumen column. The brightest light here, the 4,000-lumen P20iX, sits at the bottom. The light that reaches furthest, by a factor of nearly three, has half its output. Streamlight's four lights cluster between 4 and 27; Nitecore's three span 3 to 125.
What each brand tells you, and what it does not
This is where the comparison stops being close. Streamlight publishes a nearly complete sheet on every light. Nitecore publishes two figures and stops.

That is not a rhetorical arrangement of the evidence. Across the three Nitecore lights in this comparison, we could not source a single runtime figure, a single weight, or a single ingress rating. Streamlight publishes all three on all three of its full-size lights, and publishes runtime for every mode rather than a headline maximum.
It is worth being precise about what this does and does not mean. Nitecore may well test all of these things; the pages available to us do not carry the results. A missing figure is a disclosure fact rather than a performance fact, and we are careful not to convert one into the other. But on a site that ranks lights by what can be checked, an unpublished runtime cannot count in a light's favor.
Power, and what happens when it runs out
Both brands are mostly rechargeable, and both offer one light that runs on cells from a corner shop.
- Nitecore P30i and P20iX — 21700 with USB-C charging built in. The largest common cell format, and a spare can be carried, but it is not something you will find in a rural gas station.
- Nitecore MT2A Pro — AA, dual-power compatible, with USB-C charging. The most flexible power arrangement Nitecore fields here, and the reason it earns a place despite the thinnest spec sheet.
- Streamlight ProTac HL-X — the SL-B26 pack or two CR123A lithium primaries. Primaries store for a decade and work when no charger exists.
- Streamlight PolyTac — two CR123A lithium, included. No charging to think about at all.
- Streamlight Stinger 2020 — the SL-B26 pack only. The one Streamlight here with no primary fallback.
Neither brand publishes a capacity figure for its packs, so the watt-hour arithmetic this site normally runs cannot be applied to either side. That is unusual — Fenix and Petzl both state capacity — and it means runtime here has to be taken from published hours or not at all. Long throw: Nitecore P30i vs Streamlight ProTac HL-X
The Nitecore reaches 1,000 m against 374 m and publishes 700 more lumens. On the two figures Nitecore states, it wins decisively, and 250,000 candela is the second-highest intensity anywhere on this site. The Streamlight answers with a complete sheet: IP68, three published runtimes, a stated weight, CR123A fallback, and a candela figure that reconciles with its own distance claim.
Take the P30i if reach is genuinely the job — spotting across a field, a shoreline, a large yard. Take the ProTac HL-X for anything where you also need to know how long it lasts and whether it survives the weather. At 125 candela per lumen the P30i is a specialist, and its spill will be thin for close work.
Output: Nitecore P20iX vs Streamlight Stinger 2020
The P20iX publishes twice the lumens — 4,000 against 2,000 — and reaches 94 m less. This is the pair that shows what 4,000 lumens actually buys: an enormously wide, bright field at short range, and nothing extra at distance. The Stinger 2020 publishes a three-mode runtime table, IPX7 and a 350 g weight; the P20iX publishes none of the three.
For lighting a whole work area at close range the P20iX is a genuinely different tool and its low concentration is a feature, not a fault. For a duty light where the runtime at each level matters, the Stinger.
Compact: Nitecore MT2A Pro vs Streamlight PolyTac
The closest pair here, and the one where Nitecore's disclosure hurts least. The MT2A Pro publishes 1,000 lumens and 255 m from AA cells with USB-C charging, which is a genuinely useful combination. The PolyTac publishes 600 lumens, 214 m, three runtimes, 119 g and IPX7, on CR123A primaries. More light and better power flexibility against more information and a known ingress rating.

What we would not do
We would not treat the P20iX's 4,000 lumens as making it the best light here, and we would not treat it as a bad light either. It is a flood built to fill a space, and 3 candela per lumen is what that looks like as a number. The mistake is only made when someone buys it expecting distance.
We would also not claim Nitecore's lights are less durable than Streamlight's. We do not know, because Nitecore does not publish ingress ratings on the pages we read, and we are not going to substitute a guess or another site's estimate for a figure the maker chose not to state.

35,000 candela and 374 m reconcile exactly: the square root of 35,000 divided by 0.25 is 374.2 m. Streamlight's numbers are internally consistent across all three modes, which is the strongest signal of a maker publishing real measurements rather than marketing figures.
1.5 hours at 1,300 lumens implies roughly 6 to 7 watt-hours of usable energy — consistent with a single 18650-class pack and with the CR123A alternative.
IP68 with 2 m impact resistance is the toughest rating in this roundup, and the reason this light shows up on so many duty belts.

221 m from 4,000 lumens works back to about 12,200 candela. That is a wide, bright beam rather than a thrower — the Streamlight ProTac HL-X puts nearly three times the intensity into its hotspot on a third of the output.
It is the clearest illustration on the site of why lumens do not decide reach. Four thousand lumens is a genuinely large number and this light still reaches barely half as far as a 1,300-lumen one.
4,000 lumens in a 21700 tube is a thermal burst. Without a published runtime table there is no way to know where it settles, which is what keeps it below the documented lights on our ranking.

Is Nitecore or Streamlight better?
Nitecore publishes the highest output and by far the longest reach in this comparison — 4,000 lumens on the P20iX and 1,000 m on the P30i. Streamlight publishes a runtime for every mode, a weight and an ingress rating on every light. Buy Nitecore for a specific extreme; buy Streamlight when you need to know what the light does.
Why does the 2,000-lumen Nitecore P30i reach further than the 4,000-lumen P20iX?
Because reach depends on beam intensity, not total output. The P30i publishes 1,000 m, which works back to 250,000 candela — 125 candela per lumen. The P20iX publishes 221 m, or 12,210 candela, which is 3 candela per lumen. The P30i concentrates its light into a narrow column; the P20iX spreads it across a wide field.
Does Nitecore publish runtime figures?
Not on any of the three lights in this comparison. We could not source a runtime, a weight or an ingress rating for the P30i, the P20iX or the MT2A Pro. We state that as a gap rather than filling it in from another review site. Streamlight publishes all three on all of its full-size lights.
Are Nitecore flashlights waterproof?
Nitecore does not publish an ingress rating for these three lights on the pages we read, so we do not state one. That is not evidence they are fragile — only that the figure is not available to check. Streamlight publishes IP68 on the ProTac HL-X and IPX7 on the Stinger 2020 and PolyTac.
Which is the best Nitecore flashlight for long distance?
The P30i, on published figures. Its 1,000 m beam distance is the longest of any handheld we cover except the Acebeam L19, and it works back to 250,000 candela. Bear in mind that a beam that concentrated has comparatively little spill, so it is a poor choice for close work.
Which brand is better for police or duty use?
Streamlight, on the evidence available. A duty light needs a known runtime at each level, a known ingress rating and ideally a primary-cell fallback, and Streamlight publishes all three while Nitecore publishes none of them. That is a disclosure judgment rather than a claim about how the lights perform.
Do either of these run on AA batteries?
The Nitecore MT2A Pro does, and it also charges over USB-C, which is an unusual and useful combination. On the Streamlight side the ProTac HL-X and the PolyTac take CR123A lithium primaries rather than AA. Neither brand fields an AA light with a published runtime figure.
