About Beam & Bezel
A publication about flashlights and headlamps that has never handled one, and says so before anything else.

What this site is
Beam & Bezel compiles published flashlight and headlamp specifications, does the arithmetic that connects them, and links every source. It exists because the numbers in this category are scattered across manufacturer PDFs, locked inside images on review sites, or simply not published at all — and because nobody was putting them somewhere you could read, sort and check them.
It is a ledger rather than a magazine. The tables are the content, and the numbers are the loudest thing on the page.
Who writes it
Scooter M. — an enthusiast who's genuinely into this — I read the manuals, compile the published specs, and do the math. No lab coat.
That is the whole biography, and it is deliberately short. There is no certification behind this site, no professional qualification, no panel of experts, and no years-in-the-industry claim. Inventing any of those would be the easiest thing in the world and the fastest way to be caught out.
The honest position on testing
Units we claim to have tested: 0. Everyone in this category says they tested twenty lights. We have not tested any, and we say so.
What we did instead: compiled the published ANSI FL 1 figures, computed runtime from cell capacity and beam distance from candela, and linked every source so you can check us. The full method, including every formula, is on the methodology page, which is the most important page here.
That is a smaller claim than a test lab and it has one real advantage: every conclusion on this site can be verified by a reader with a calculator. Almost none of our competitors can say that, because a measurement made in a private lab is a claim you have to take on trust.
Where the numbers come from
- Published standards — ANSI/PLATO FL 1 for output, beam intensity, beam distance, runtime, impact and water resistance; IEC 60529 for IP ratings.
- Manufacturer documents — spec pages, manuals and official product pages, linked with the date we read them.
- The brand’s own retail listing, where we could not reach the maker’s own site. Always labeled as such so you can weigh it.
- A live price layer, for price and availability only. Never for specifications.
Never cited as a source of fact: another affiliate site, a forum post, a video review, an AI summary, or memory.
How this is funded
Beam & Bezel participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and earns from qualifying purchases made through links on this site, at no extra cost to you. We accept no sponsored placements and no free products, and commission never influences a pick or the order picks appear in. The full disclosure is here, and our editorial policy sets out the independence rules.
Photography
Every photograph on this site is licensed stock, and it is captioned as such wherever it appears. We own no products and have taken no photographs of any. A stock image is never arranged or captioned to imply we handled anything.
Corrections
Found a number that is wrong? Tell us and we will fix it and say so. Material corrections get a dated note on the affected page rather than a quiet edit. Write to info@beamandbezel.com or use the contact form.
